Mr. Hamza K. Bawazir is the Secretary General of the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), with over 18 years of experience spanning Islamic finance, Shariah governance and compliance, product development, risk management, and corporate governance. Previously, he led the Shariah Division at Saudi National Bank (SNB), overseeing advisory, governance, development, and control functions across corporate, retail, treasury, and investment banking activities.

At SNB, Mr. Hamza played a pivotal role in advancing Islamic finance by establishing the Shariah Compliance Function and developing a comprehensive database of over 860 Shariah product standards. He enhanced transparency by strengthening the segregation of Islamic and conventional financial reporting. Mr. Hamza also codeveloped several innovative product initiatives.

His earlier roles at SABB and Bank AlJazira focused on product structuring, Shariah audit, and risk management, including the development of Islamic Receivable Finance and structuring ijarah deals totaling SAR 550M.

Mr. Hamza is a distinguished contributor to global financial industry platforms, serving in strategic board roles with the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and the International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM). He holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation, an Executive MBA, and dual bachelor’s degrees in Islamic Jurisprudence and Business Administration, reflecting a unique blend of financial expertise and deep understanding of Islamic principles.
